Best practice LinkedIn connection requests, please!

I think many out there in LinkedIn land need to read this.

ALWAYS USE A PERSONAL MESSAGE.

No matter what. Even if you have just met them or are even friends. It’s best practice, its engaging, it sets up the relationship in the right way from the get go. If you cannot be bothered to write a short note to someone then how are you ever going to bother to actually build a relationship?

But the mobile site doesn’t allow it?

Yes it does. Top right of screen, 3 little dots. Touch it and see what happens!

What should I write?

Your message should obviously state your reason for connecting and intention for your relationship. There are lots of reasons to connect BUT JUST BE HONEST. If you want to sell to them, say so, but make sure your pitch is spot on and valuable. If you want to connect because you like their content, say so…who doesn’t like flattery. There is no point in just collecting connections that mean nothing to you. No one cares!

That’s it.
